Amazing film. Thank you Mr. Roger! From title card at the end: Inspired by the article "Can You Say ... Hero?" by Tom Junod. The article was originally published in the November 1998 issue and online now at Esquire Magazine: https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a27134/can-you-say-hero-esq1198/

Note: Nice tunes throughout and don't miss the song, "You've Got To Do It," that begins at 1:43:23 mark during the credits. (You can make believe it happens; Or pretend that something's true ...)

Don’t judge this movie by its cover. It is a message every bit as much for adults as for children. Mr. Rogers is being interviewed by a cynical journalist, but he turns the interview upside down, much to the chagrin and benefit of The writer. In Fred Rogers you see a man who works tirelessly to bring a listening ear and kindness into the world. This is a story of an unexpected friendship and it just may help to restore your faith in mankind.

This movie warmed my heart and showed a side of Mr. Rogers that regular viewers of his show didn't get to see. Come to see Tom Hanks thoughtfully play Fred Rogers and stay for the fascinating glimpse into Mr. Rogers' ability to meaningfully impact those around him through his sometimes complicated relationship with the reporter Tom Junod.

A kind, warm movie. Made me want to be like Mr. Rogers - full of kindness & able to really see & care about other people

Not what I expected but still very good. Tom Hanks can do anything and he does a great job capturing the essence of the beloved Mr. Rogers. What I didn't expect was that the story was mainly about a jaded and somewhat emotionally shut-off journalist whose life is impacted by his assignment to do a profile on the television icon. A good movie to watch in these fraught times.

Tom Hanks had some big shoes to fill and he did a wonderful job. I find myself looking for comfort from Mr. Rogers now as much as I did 40 over 40 years ago. This film only reinforced to me what a wonderful human being he was. And yes, you'll cry throughout, but it's a good cry.

This movie had me crying from beginning to end. Tom Hanks was excellent I consider this one of the best movies of his career. I grew up watching Mr. Fred Rogers he taught me a lot watching his show I consider him one of my all time hero's even today even when I was a kid I wanted to be the type of person he was I wanted to be someone who would always show love, compassion, give peace, always be kind, never judge or assume things about anybody and much more the list can go on. Even the world can be very cruel at times you should always give back love, compassion, care, understanding, and peace to others whenever you can. This movie omg you don't want to miss a chance to see it, it is one of the best.

I was not aware of the movie (not even saw the trailer in advance), and I never read the Esquire magazine article (which is the basis and inspiration for this movie).
It is not what I expected at all, but it was a pleasant surprise.
I also have to wonder, who was really Mr. Rogers? A character? Or the real man?
Interesting and well made. Not overly nostalgic.

A nostalgic peek at Mr. Rogers, a TV icon renown for his Christian "gentleness" , a beatitude borrowed from St. Matthew 5.
