The long awaited series for Magnus Bane, the Red Scrolls of Magic, was worth every second. This book surpassed every expectation I had. The plot was amazing and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, waiting to discover what would happen next. It was full of action, romance, and wonderfully constructed plot twists. The character development was amazing. Knowing the characters from the other series, I was intrigued to discover more about them and I was not disappointed. This book filled in the gaps from the previous stories and provided much insight into the characters’ actions in other books. I cannot wait for the next book to see the plot further develop. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Cassandra Clare’s other works or is a fan of the Shadowhunters TV series. Overall, a wonderful read. 5/5

This story takes place right after the events of City of Glass and follows Alec and Magnus throughout their vacation in Europe. Right off the bat I adore the setting, seeing various cities in Europe as the backdrop for this story kept it fresh and atmospheric. It was very easy to read and the plot easy to follow along -- though it definitely was not as complex as some of Clare’s other plots. It carries a lot less tension than some of Clare’s other first books, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyable. For avid fans of Cassandra Clare’s work, this books seems necessary as it deals with a considerable amount of character development that improves the reading experience of her other stories. 4/5.

This was set after the first war, and there were a lot of feels going back so far. Any mention of Tessa, Jem, or Will always gets to me. I did enjoy the story and the beginning of these character's relationships.

My scale is 1-5. 1 being poor/low and 5 being great/high.

Age Group: Middle Grade and Up

Cliché?☆☆☆☆☆ -1
Nope, not even a hint. This storyline is pure Cassandra (and her co-writer).

Mythology/Creatures: Vampires, werewolves, warlocks, demons, mundanes, fae, and angels.

Romance: ★★★★★
The perfect balance for this storyline! It wasn't suffocating or too sickly-sweet. I will warn you that this series is very pride friendly as it follows a warlock and his Shadowhunter boyfriend into the battle field.

Mystery: ★★★★☆
I felt that this book was mysterious, not very, but a nice amount for the younger readers. As there was a mystery of who was the head of the Crimson Hand. I can tell you I was blinded until someones cell stopped working.

Angst: ★☆☆☆☆
Not a lot, but a dash with the insecurities that blossom.

Suspense: ★★★★☆
I felt that there was a lot of suspense on how everything will play out.

Character Development: ★★★★★
Love the characters! I find that I read the books that contain the originals characters storylines. I don't want to start out with a new set of characters/Shadowhunters. They either have the OG characters or in the timeframe in such or I don't catch onto reading it (I've noticed). Btw, love Simon and Isabella.

Continue? ★★★★★
Yes, I will! No doubt about it as I want to find out what all happens!
