I won't bother you with details, it's better if you just watch. This is a well directed, acted and paced film. Clocking in at over 2 hours, everything moves at a nice steady clip. Definitely worth the effort, highly recommended. Oh to have such mad money to gamble away.

Poor Molly. Her bullying father pushes her to become an Olympic skier: no chance of that. Then her first poker boss tries to cheat her out of her rightful salary: he's a bad chap indeed. Then the next poker baron she entices into her illicit game turns on her and destroys her game. Then...then... Oh God it's always those power-hungry men who want to destroy a poor woman! Never mind that Molly broke several laws while she was making scads of money helping witless rich men lose all theirs. Never mind that she has a computer for a heart. And especially never mind that you have to be a lawyer to understand all the legal jargon that Elba and Chastain spout at each other. Your spare time can better be spent by watching Altman's California Split, in which George Segal and Elliot Gould go through some painful experiences playing poker, and they aren't glossed over.

Jessica Chastain gives a knock-out performance. Loved Kevin Costner as her pushy psychologist Dad. Good script, editing, and scene progression. Loved this film.

Watched it twice...close to twice in a row. good stuff!

Jessica Chastain, based purely on her acting, might currently be Hollywood's most magnetic actress. Doesn't hurt to have Idris Elba and the rejuvenated Kevin Costner as your backup either!

Good performance of a wasted talent. A poker game with life as well.

This was a entertaining and fascinating film. Jessica Chastain was outstanding as Molly Bloom, a former Olympic level skier who ended up running a high-stakes, exclusive poker game. The movie is based on a true story and is taut, suspenseful and clever. I liked it mainly because of Jessica Chastain's powerful and mesmerizing performance. She was magnificent, but the story isn't quite a compelling as her performance.

Adds to the book, in case you have read it.

First half rather boring and hard to follow. Kept waiting for Kevin Costner to enter the film. Molly put her life at risk dealing with the underworld.

A survey was taken a few years ago that asked 300 professionals one question, "What's the worst thing that can happen in sports?" Some people answered losing a game 7, and other people said getting swept in the 4. Some people said it was missing the world cup, and some Brazilians said it was losing to Argentina. Not just in the world cup. Anytime, ever in any contest. But one person answered that the worst thing that can happen in sports is 4th place at the Olympics.

Molly Bloom is an aspiring Olympic gold medalist who, after a freak accident, chooses to take a break from training prior to going to law school. She takes two jobs, one of which leads to an opportunity she hadn't considered or prepared for. Molly's new boss runs a poker game, but not just ANY poker game. It's a game for the rich and famous, and it's her job to set it up, run it, and, of course, count the buy-ins.

One thing leads to another and Molly's boss turns out to be quite crooked. After being put in a bind, Molly decides to take the poker game into her own hands. She ups the ante (both literally and figuratively) and things are going well until Player X makes a dire mistake that Molly simply can't allow at her table.

One phone call is all it takes for Molly to be out of the game, and after two years, she's arrested for her connection to the Russian mob.

This movie will break your heart, make you laugh, and make you cry. Molly's character is witty, charming, and sarcastic - all my favorite qualities. The characters are well-developed, but I found the movie was a little slow in some spots. Four stars, and I will likely watch it again!
