Not sure that graphic novels are for you? Hilo is a perfect first step for 3rd-7th graders. Great story and characters that will pull you into the series.

He crashed to earth and is a robot I liked the part when he could just fix himself at any time!

How would you like to have a friend who can make you laugh about 100 times a day, and can also fight killer robots from space? The next time you see a blazing fireball streaking to earth, go have a look - it might be Hilo.

Hilo--both the character and his book--is cheerful and enthusiastic. He brings all manner of excitement and humor into the lives of D.J. and Gina. And danger. The book opens with Hilo and D.J. fleeing in terror from a giant, homicidal robot. Then it flashes back to D.J. finding Hilo after he plummeted to the earth as a meteor, climbing out of the crater as a boy with no memory. His dark past slowly returns to him as enemies begin showing up in pursuit, and the friends soon learn they have become involved in an inter-dimensional war. That provides plenty of action. Everything else--from art to dialogue to presentation and plotting; character interactions in particular--provides lighthearted fun. This has tons of appeal for young readers.
