Nice twisty thriller with good creepy performances.
A lunatic asylum setting lends itself to sweeping, out-of-bounds shenanigans.
Still, despite blood and menace, the film had just low level excitement.

The setting and the ambience set the tone quite well, and the cast was very good (Caine, Kingsley, Beckinsale... would've liked to have seen Brendan Gleeson involved more so). The story, for me, was fair to middling at best, unfortunately.

Very enjoyable. Above average movie.

Watchable lunatics are running the asylum type of movie. The doctor was annoying in the beginning but the ending was unexpected.

Looking for a Halloween thriller that keeps you in suspense without a lot of blood? Then check out "Stonehearst Asylum". This shadowy Victorian movie is based on Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Feather". It's headed by a terrific cast including Michael Caine, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Kingsley, and Jim Sturgess (who seems to be in everything these days.)

When young Dr. Edward Newgate arrives at Stonehearst Asylum, he finds the staff a bit odd, even frightening. The head doctor (Kingsley) explains that he is using new, progressive methods to cure the patients. There's one patient who seems to have no need of a cure; the beautiful Eliza Graves. She alone seems concerned about Edward's safety, and tells him to run for it. Edward is skeptical, until he finds out what's in the cellar…

The big cast seems awkward at first, yet the writers and directors make sympathetic three dimensional characters out of the patients and staff, even the villainous ones. The atmosphere is eerie and tense, yet there is a note of hope throughout. If you liked "American Horror Story: Asylum", then this one has plenty of twists and turns for you.

Great story, great cast, but it can drag at times. Overall, a decent gothic thriller.

Atmospheric and creepy. The cast is more than compensation for some slow and implausible moments.

FAst forwarded through the entire CD. Thought it was a waste of time.

A bit boring but worth watching through the end.
