This film needed more time to fully tell the story but it is filled with great acting. It is about life and death and all the stuff in between.

A paint by numbers English coming of age drama, complete with a soundtrack with a whimsical, scratchy-voiced folk singer. The cast is good, but literally anything else you might see them in would be better, or at least less predictable. BTW, the alternate title is Way the World Ends. That's not pretentious at all.

As disclosed in the description, the growing pains of the young girl was infuriating and heartbreaking though not too uncommon for those living in poor neighborhoods, as near auto wrecking yards, where physical violence and broken families are often the norm. Good script, actors and nice music score "Colours by Electric Wave Bureau." -- link in Videos.

I agree that this is a deep film worthy of second viewing to totally grasp the subtle nuances. The complex characters whose lives become inevitably intertwined draw the viewer into a riveting storyline. Frighteningly surreal, one family's modus operandi of brutality and bullying sets in motion terrible outcomes, impacting others as well as themselves. Exceptional acting all-round.

This drama from the UK deals with three neighbouring families, each with its share of problems. In a way you can also view it as a coming-of-age film as the protagonist is an 11-yr old girl. However, as a film it fails to engage me thoroughly. Still worth a watch if you enjoy contemporary British cinema.

What a terrific movie! It concerns three families who live in a small cul-de-sac and the conflicts and alliances between them. One father is a volatile bully whose three daughters are learning from his example, and these four people set of a series of terrible events in the lives of the other two families. All of the characters, the good, the bad, the well-meaning and the lost, are extraordinarily well played by mostly unknown actors. The girl at the centre of the story is a first time actor, and she alone makes the film worth watching.

A very well done film. Recommended it to others who enjoyed it as well.

good adaptation of the book, but not great, so many things left out, but that is usually the case with books made into movies, I would say it follows the core of the book, but so many things were changed, probably to fit it all in. the girl who played Skunk was awesome. and Tim Roth was actually sexy, and Cillian Murphy is not a bad guy for once, he is so good looking.

This must be the most underrated films of the year. I suspect that Tim Roth and Cillian Murphy saw its great potential and did it for peanuts. It is a story of a pre-teen growing up with a single father and all kinds of good and bad things happening. The five minute late scene at the church reminds me of the 100 minutes of scenes in “Jacob’s Ladder” starring Tim Robbins, but the results of these unconscious scenes are opposite.

This is a very deep film which could do with more than one viewing to understand. Contrary to the description, Skunk sets out in life in a fragile state and has to deal with daily logging of her diabetes. This "head" start into adulthood likely sees her through her difficulties which are brought on by other people's coping and developmental natures. The relationship between father and daughter is close -- not all charactars blend as well (for instance the nanny) but it is a very good drama which makes you think and it is also emotionally compelling.
