I felt that the story was a little formulaic at first, but then it became a real page turner! I didn't love the characters but I did enjoy the plot and the setting, so I will continue to read the series to see how it develops.

It was cute and a quick read. A little old lady with too much money and time on her hands who has a whole town in debt to her. The poodle is just too perfect, and the mandatory two suitors are not very appealing. Lots of scenery, and interesting group of fellow book club/ sleuths to meet. If only small towns were really so interesting! But I wouldn't want to be in a town under this lady's thumb.

I like Olivia and her standard poodle companion. Olivia's come back to her hometown after years away, years during which she became a successful business owner. This first book in the series has her gradually settling back in and forging friendships, as well as joining a writing club. Olivia is smart, cautious, and brave. Her writing group pool their resources and provide assistance to the police. I like how many of the people are quirky, are compassionate, are nosy and considerate all at the same time. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
