I tried to finish this, but I got bogged down with all the details of Italian police procedures. There were no explanations of the differing departments and arms of enforcements so I never knew who was in charge. I was also VERY frustrated with the petty behaviors by the police/army/whoever these men were. They hid info from one another. I gave up. Also, no suspense and no capture of anyone.

The author brings an urgency to the ineptness and corruption of the Italian Police, while maintaining suspense about the investigation into who is the real Monster of Florence.

Interesting story, but the author rambles. Someone needs to remind Preston that non-fiction does not have to be boring. It's worth picking up if you have an interest in strange serial killer cases, though.

Fox 2000 has acquired film rights to The Monster of Florence. George Clooney will star in an adaptation written by Chris McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander. Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing with Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen.

Non-fiction book this may be, but it is a riveting read. Douglas Preston, author of the thriller series about an FBI agent, ends up accused of being a serial killer in Italy. This book talks about how he and his family are able to make their way safely back to USA. He is an excellent writer, and the story is one that needed to be told.
