This guy kicks his dog to death in the first scene. Sick!! Enough said.

This movie is designed for someone who embraces the mentally imbalanced and loves a super slow moving plot. Incidentally, there are no dinosaurs in the movie, only screwed up people.

WoW! What an intense movie! I am just going to ditto what commenter nursebob said below and add that just before watching this movie I watched 'Only God Forgives' with Ryan Gosling. That movie, with its big star and big budget, tried to create the intensity, fear, and explosive personalities that Tyrannosaur did achieve. But that movie was laughable and cartoony. Tyrannosaur, on the other hand, created these elements, and more, in a 60 year old man who'll scare the bejeezus out of you! A super well written and acted movie. Shows what can be done with a great script, a small budget, and no outlandish FX.

Surprisingly well-acted with amazing, simple scenes.

Joseph is an angry man given to fits of brutal violence and self-loathing. Hannah is a seemingly kindhearted shopkeeper and devout Christian who’s own violent anger has been turned inwards causing her to reach for the bottle more than she should. When these two tortured souls meet head-on one fateful afternoon the tentative relationship which ensues leads to both a tragic confrontation and a small glimmer of redemption for both. In Paddy Considine’s unrelentingly intense drama there seems to be a pandemic of rage, projected by some, internalized by others, which leaves a trail of destruction in its wake. Using a palette of sombre earth tones against a backdrop of gloomy skies and everyday cruelties he launches an assault on our sensibilities. But even as we flinch at his frank depictions of other peoples’ hells we can’t help but feel a certain degree of compassion for the all-too-human monsters he presents. There is a masterful control at work in this film, aided by a phenomenal cast, which prevents it from spiraling into a gratuitous punch-fest. Furthermore the many subtle allusions to brutality; a broken figurine, the shadow of a growling dog, a child abandoning his stuffed bunny in order to play war games with toy soldiers, serve to reinforce the film’s central theme; the capacity for violence exists in all of us. Magnificent.

This is a 2011 British drama written and directed by Paddy Considine.
At the beginning, Joseph looks like a good-for-nothing guy with explosive anger.
I'm pretty sure everybody would hate him to the bone.
Hannah appears just like a Jesus's mother.
As you view the film along, you will see a lot of profoundly uncomfortable scenes and gratuitous swearings.
At a time, for example, her abusive husband urinates on her.
Gradually, you'll see her hidden sufferings.
The real revelation in this film is the performance of Olivia Colman as Hannah.
She plays superbly as a religious yet mentally-and-physically-suffering woman.
In any case, it is a gripping and thought-provoking piece of work.

Animal lovers and respectors of animals may (more likely will) find the 2 episodes of dog-murder unpalatable. There is a touching scene when Joseph comes in for shelter into Hannah's shop. I think there may be a cultural mismatch here about the status of animals. This movie is worthwhile as a drama but be prepared to flinch and feel sick. The charactar Hannah's leap from victim to perpetrator didn't feel quite smooth or buyable to me.

I wish I'd never seen this movie. I was so disturbed by the beginning, no not the swearing, but the man kicking his dog to death that I turned it off. And this is the first movie I've ever taken my time to write a complaint about a movie to it's makers... and to the library.

I wasn't digging this movie at first. It felt a little cliche and the connection between the characters felt forced but as the film went on and the mood and characters developed I really started to enjoy it more and more and there is some really powerful scenes present.

A real indie gem. Not for the faint of heart. Provides graphic violence and gut-wrenching emotion in equal doses. Very well acted and written. The film is shot well, too, in dull greys and haunting shots. Just an extremely well done foreign drama.
