The concept initially sounded like a lot of fun. Mysteries aren't my normal forte, but I do like fantasy tales. I liked the idea of the magical cats, and the heroine is a librarian, so I thought I was going to enjoy it. I didn't.

On the positive side, the book was a quick and easy read. It went really fast.

On the negative side, I despised the main character. She is supposed to be a smart, professional woman, and yet, every time she had a chance to actually figure something out, the author dumbed her down to keep the story going. It just ended up making the character act incredibly dumb. And I hate when authors do that. If you have to dumb your character down to make the story work, you are telling the wrong story.

I did not enjoy this book, and would not recommend it to others.

I am sure that many cozy mystery fans will enjoy this series. I just could not get in to the whole magical cat thing though,so it was a no go for me.

This book is definitely better than some of the cozy mysteries I've looked at recently. It shows nice development, a good cast of characters, and not uni-dimensional characters.

I agree with the comment of "midnight." It does remind me a bit of Braun's earlier books in "The Cat Who...." series.

I this first book of the series, the main character begins to see that the two kittens that "adopted" her have some pretty amazing powers and she has come to accept them.

First in a series; I've now read the second and am looking forward to a third story about these helpful magical(?) cats who help solve murder mysteries. Small town librarian Kathleen, formerly of Boston, finds friendship (and bodies) in Mayville Heights.

For those of you who are upset about the demise Lillian Jackson Braun, this is the first of what is described as a series of cozy cat mysteries. Although the cat stars are not as pedigreed as Koko and Yum Yum, they also are more than just ordinary domestic cats. And, for those of you who are reading this series and would like more, Sofie Kelley has written another cat cosy mystery series under the pen name Sofie Ryan starring a rescue cat called Elvis.
