Far out and imaginative. A real magical treat to read.

Most excellent book! Could not put it down and once I was finished with it I just had to read Stiletto.

This will appeal to fans of Dr. Who and/or Jasper Fforde's Tuesday Next titles. Fast paced, funny, supernatural, and British!

I wasn't able to finish the book. I only made it to 200 pages and so. The setting is interesting with this mysterious superpower cope agency. That the main character had amenasia but still able to follow back to her "normal" life is quite fascinating. My problem with the book is that the story is way too slow with loads of unnessisary details packed in the lines. The letters olk myfanny wrote to the new one was long and tedious, which also seems really unrealistic to me. The story was also full of quite wierd mental activity of Myfanny. The character was constantly comparing herself with other person for the appearance. Overall, I like the idea of the story but the type of writing is not my cup of tea.

At first I wasn't sure I was going to like this since I generally like hard SF much better than fantasy but the way this book uses the main character's total amnesia is so amazingly original, funny and at times heartbreaking meant that the occasionally over the top fantastical parts never bothered me.

Complete memory loss has never been more fun. Myfanwy Thomas wakes up in a park surrounded by dead bodies and no idea of who she is or what happened. Luckily she has letters from her former self to guide her as she tries to uncover who wiped her memory without anybody finding out about it - not a small feat when you are a high official in a secret supernatural government agency charged with protecting the country.

I am not usually a fan of conspiracy theory stories, I really liked this story. I loved the slow building of Myfanwy's knowledge of her life & memory. A remarkable story, unlike anything I've read before. The characters were well filled out for the most part. In short, I am now a fan and will search out more O'Malley works.

Secret government society!
Supernatural powers!
Supernatural monsters!
The Rook has it all!
Written by Australian author Daniel O'Malley, The Rook begins with Myfanwy Thomas waking in a park surrounded by dead men all wearing latex gloves. She has no idea who she is or how she got there but she does find a note in her coat pocket telling her the body she inhabits is hers now and she is in danger.
Filled with fantastic writing, humor, conspiracies, action and adventure The Rook is one of my favorite books and I'm really looking forward to book 2 due out late 2016.

I really enjoyed this book.

Myfanwy Thomas (pronounced as Miffany, like Tiffany) is a supernatural secret agent working for a classified organization that deals with the abnormal, supernatural, and the paranormal.

One day, she wakes up in the middle of a park with dead bodies around her. She reaches out into her pocket and finds a letter that says: "Dear you, that body you are wearing used to be mine."

Anyone who likes conspiracies, supernatural creatures, magical powers, and a little bit of humor I highly recommend you read this book!
