Unforgettable film from Argentina. Unexpected. I loved it, especially how the story ended. Another fantastic performance from a top Argentine cast.

This American version of the original movie adaptation of the novel, "La pregunta de sus ojos," by Eduardo SacheriI is okay. I recommend seeing the original Argentine production (2009) of this story directed by Juan José Campanella. It is a far better film and truer to the novel.

Rated 6/10. A bit above average. Comparing this to The Fall, it was better. Same type of storyline.

This movie has an interesting and unexpected ending.

I thought this was an amazing movie. Julia Roberts is fantastic in her role. The way she looks in this movie is absolutely amazing. She is hollow eyed and thin in the face. Nichole Kidman's performance in the interrogation room is exceptional! This movie has an unexpected ending.

...enjoyed the remake, so I rented this original...but I was really, really confused...and I think this movie is a totally different one from the recent US movie...so I can't say that it's a remake!

To have the stellar cast in this movie, it was quite boring. There is not too much more I can say about it.

Accolades to the script for the unexpected ending and the actors as long suffering law enforcement officers who tried to identify the killer of a 13 year old murder case that was personal to them. Good crime thriller despite bumbling police procedure in stake outs and foot pursuits.

Review of the original Spanish version:
A bit slower going than the 2016 Hollywood remake with Nicole Kidman, Julia Robers and Chiwetel Ejiofor. With different characters but both with essentially the same unforgettable final twist. Being the original, this Argentina version earns another half star.

Wow, had to chime in here, since many of these reviews are for the American remake of the fabulous Argentinian film so please ignore them here. The original, Academy Award winning drama El Secreto de sus Ojos (best foreign film in a year of intense competition) is an unforgettable, incredibly well-acted tour de force! Quite intense, but worth the trouble on every level, it takes us into a world I have never entered before. I won't go into the plot, which others have done, but let's just say it has some surprises, It's a film for mature adults who admire a complex script with deeply layered characters, not frenetic action. This film is on my TOP 100 list of all time, 5 Stars.

Ray: I always thought if this one was over, it would feel like it was over.
Jessica: Maybe it's been over a long time, we just never knew it.
Jessica: I don't think I have the stomach to watch him walk away again. Does that sound like justice to you? I hate the death penalty. Let him rot in jail, live a life full of nothing. ... Life sentence, Ray.
Ray: For you, too?
Ray: You were always beautiful, but so ambitious.
Claire: I prefer "determined."
Ray: Political.
Claire: Collegial.
Ray: Oblivious.
Claire: I think you like looking back more than I do. I don't have the time for it.
Ray: Okay. Let's look forward.
Claire: Okay, let's.

Jessica: Christ. An unrequited office romance. The cliché of it doesn't bother you?
Ray: Jess. Have a little respect. She's engaged.
Jessica: You know? This is...It's inappropriate. The beauty from Harvard Law and the blue-collar Fed from the wrong side of Brooklyn. So sad.
Ray: Don't be a dick, Jess.
Jessica: Thank you, Ray. A sexist would've called me something else.
Ray: Why? You're such a dick.
Siefert: Sorry, Cobb. Golden rule of counter-terrorism, remember? Protect the snitch.
Ray: You're both working for a liar.
Jessica: That's the trouble with you, Ray. You think that matters.

Jessica: I hate the death penalty.
Ray: Oh, yeah? Why's that?
Jessica: Death would be too good for this guy. A big meal and a shot and a nap. Let him rot in jail, live a life full of nothing.
Siefert: You really are a moron, Bumpy, you know that?
Bumpy: Siefert, you keep throwing that term around, but I'm not sure you know what it actually means. It's a medical term. Did you know that?
Siefert: Is that right?
- Mmm-hmm. It means someone with an IQ between 50 and 69. An imbecile's someone with an IQ between 49 and 20.
- And an idiot, I think is the word you're looking for.
- Someone who scores below 19.
- H mm. What do you call someone who's dumber than that?
- Lieutenant.
