In the second volume of the Wallflowers series, fiercely independent American Lillian Bowman, in London to find a husband, matches wits with the insufferable, snobbish, and irresistible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, society's most eligible bachelor. Original.

HARPERCOLL

Headstrong American heiress Lillian Bowman has come to England to find an aristocratic husband. Unfortunately, no man is strong enough to tame the stubborn beauty's fierce will. Except, perhaps, the powerful and arrogant Earl of Westcliff—a man Lillian despises more than anyone she's ever met.

Marcus, Lord Westcliff, is famous for his icy English reserve and his supreme self-control. But something about the audacious Lillian drives him mad. Whenever they're in the same room, they can't stop themselves from battling furiously to gain the upper hand.

Then one afternoon, a stunningly sensuous encounter changes everything . . . and Lillian discovers that beneath the earl's reserved façade, he is the passionate and tender lover of her dreams. What neither Westcliff nor Lillian suspect, however, is that a sinister conspiracy threatens to destroy any chance of happiness. After a shocking betrayal endangers Lillian's safety—and possibly her life—will Marcus be able to save her before it's too late?

The second in a series, this book explores the romantic attraction between a British earl and an American socialite. The sparks fly when these two opposites clash.

This is the second installment in an enjoyable late regency/early Victorian romance series. The hero and heroine -- who both played supporting roles in book 1 -- are well-matched, and as always, Kleypas does a good job of balancing humor, chemistry between the leads, and lots of interesting details and insight about mid-19th century British society. A thoroughly entertaining read.

I really enjoyed this romance, probably better than the first in the series, Secrets of a Summer Night. I am suprised that I did enjoy it so much because I found Marcus really high and mighty in Secrets of a Summer Night, and although I imagined that it might be Marcus who was the hero for Kleypas' next book, I didn't imagine I would like it at all due to my already bad impression of him. Reading his small parts Secrets of a Summer Night I also imagined him to be considerably older than the usual age for a romance book hero - like 65, because of his personality and behaviour towards the Wallflowers when he found them playing rounders in their undies.

This is part of a series that I have fully enjoyed. Lisa Kleypas is a wonderful writer that makes it hard to put her books down.

Just finished this one and loved it too. I *think* I liked book 1, (summertime) with Annabelle and Simon a bit better but both were great!

Skimmed through the book.
Early setting seemed unbelievable.
Without the long erotic passages it could have been a girl's preteen novel.
