I seem to be in the same boat with most folks on this one in saying that this installment of Hannah Swensen mysteries is simply OK. I give Fluke props for coming up with new events for the residents of Lake Eden to be involved with, and bringing new characters to the Minnesota town. This one has an Indie movie being shot in the middle of the small town, with many of the residents as extras and Hannah, of course, doing most of the baking for the cast and crew. I do enjoy reading about the setting, and Fluke presumably does such a great job with this because she grew up in a small Minnesota town. It's the characters here that drive me a little nuts. Hannah is still stringing along Mike and Norman, and not only that, she also begins dating her old college beau Ross when he comes to town with the movie crew. She refuses to give either Mike or Norman an answer to their marriage proposals, and lets them continue to wage war with each other to win her affections. This is not only selfish, but it's ridiculous. It is clear that Fluke's motive for this was to keep the angst and tension going for another handful of books before Hannah finally settles down. I honestly don't care which one she chooses, but she needs to do it soon and stop with the games.
As for the murder mystery, this isn't Fluke at the top of her game. The murder doesn't take place until 2/3 of the way through the book, and the murderer was obvious from the second it occurred. It was very frustrating to see how long it took Hannah and her sisters to figure it out.
One more gripe- and this is purely for the Audiobook version- the recipes AREN'T necessary. I'm listening to the book for the story, not because I want to learn how to make Mock Turtle Cookies. If I did, I'd buy the hard copy and follow the recipe in the book. I had to fast-forward through so much of the audiobook just to get past these that it became ridiculous. All recipes should be at the end, if the author and publisher are insistent that they make it into the recording. That way it doesn't slow down the story, and those not interested can just ignore them.
I hope the next one is more intriguing and less angsty.

I have been reading the whole series, and thus far this one is my least favorite. The introduction of a new "possible" love interest was a no for me. I want to know who Hannah will marry! Keep on reading...

A Hannah Swenson Mystery with Recipes, the seventh entry in her series set in quaint Lake Eden, Minnesota . This book finds Hannah keeping her hometown happily fed with tasty cookies, chatting with her family, friends and customers ,baking and of course, solving a murder mystery. Like all the previous books in this series, it’s easy and fun to read. Of course if you are dieting, it may not be the best choice because all those recipes sure do make you hungry!!.

Joanne Fluke's book are a fun read, complete with easy recipes throughout. I've baked up quite a few of her tasty treats, to the delight of my family. What a great excuse to sit around and read; I tell everyone I'm doing "research"!
