Bawdy, joyous, messy, hysterically funny, and guaranteed to offendregardless of religion, race, national origin, sexual orientation, or professionBetween the Bridge and the River is the debut novel by Craig Ferguson, host of CBS's The Late Late Show. Two childhood friends from Scotland and two illegitimate half-brothers from the American South suffer and enjoy all manner of bizarre experiences which, as it turns out, are somehow interconnectedand, surprisingly enough, meaningful. An eclectic cast of characters includes Carl Jung, Fatty Arbuckle, Virgil, Marat, Socrates, and Tony Randall. Love, greed, hope, revenge, organized religion, and Hollywood are alternately tickled and throttled. Impossible to summarize and impossible to stop reading, this is a romantic comic odyssey that actually deliversand rewards.

Between the Bridge and the River is the debut novel by Craig Ferguson, host of The Late Late Show. Two childhood friends from Scotland and two illegitimate half-brothers from the deep South suffer and enjoy all manner of bizarre adventures that, it turns out, are somehow interconnected - and, even more surprisingly, meaningful. The eclectic cast of characters features Socrates, Carl Jung, and Tony Randall, along with an ex-television evangelist with a penchant for booze, prostitutes, and uncomfortable knitwear who gets mugged in Miami by an almost pure-blooded Watusi warrior, and sets off on a road trip in a stolen motor home.
Between the Bridge and the River is a romantic comic odyssey that is impossible to summarize - and impossible to stop reading.

I really enjoyed this novel; but it's a hard sell here in the Bible belt, since he's taking on religion. I just loved the characters and situations they found themselves facing. I enjoy his writing tremendously. Can't wait for another novel from Mr. Ferguson.

Found the book a boring read. HeCraig Ferguson should keep his job a comedian. There was nothing funny about this book. It pained me to get through this book. I think alot of the absurdety in this book was linked back to his drug and boozing days.

I had to read Craig Ferguson’s novel quickly in preparation for seeing The Late Late Show in LA on an upcoming epic vacation. I also had to quickly get stoned and watch Saving Grace, a movie about pot that he wrote and starred in.

The things that happen between the bridge and the river are very funny and better than I expected if I had expected a late-night host to write fiction at all. My only complaint is that I wish it had been a bit more obvious and a bit less zany.

I liked this book much more than I expected too. Ferguson is a natural storyteller, and does a wonderful job of creating fully defined and real characters. No one is perfect, no one is completely beyond redemption...unless by their own choice. The style is slightly Tom Robbins-y, which I loved, and the humor is dry and on the money. A really good read.
