This story has depth and detail and a good storyline covering 3 generations. I liked that libraries, letters and historical records played such a key part. Elizabeth Kostova managed to keep the story fresh and intriguing throughout. Highly recommended for Dracula story lovers and history buffs.

Wow, I really enjoyed this book. I chose the audio book version and was pleasantly surprised to find it read by many narrators. This made it easier to follow the three tales being told simultaneously.

I did find a couple of times I had to recap in order to keep the stories straight and follow the pattern of events, but I am not sure if that was a disadvantage of the audio version or a general view of the narrative to all readers.

Although Dracula, and vampires on a whole, are not my usual read, the historical and archival content was enough to keep me intrigued; so much so that I couldn’t wait to get in my car to see what happened next..

Totally enjoyable!!

I just couldn't make it. I listened to 11 of the 13 CDs and became so bogged down that I allowed myself to read the reviews. I discovered that I was not alone in feeling that the author should have employed an editor.

The book was tediously detailed, agonizingly slow, never piqued my imagination. The characters failed to come alive at any level.

Perhaps it was too scholarly for my simple tastes. Perhaps it was just long and overwritten.

I'd advise you not to waste your time deciding.
