A review of the scientific literature contradicts everything in this book.

Two separate teams of scientists (Luiz C deMattos, Haroldo W. Moreira; Yamamoto et al.) confirmed independently that the A type is much older than the O type; and the B type is probably too. D’Adamo’s first chapter on Blood Type: The Real Evolution Revolution with lots of tables and maps indicating that the O type is tens of thousands of years older than the A & B types is a work of fiction with no direct supporting references.

Additionally, out of 1,415 screened references none either addressed, confirmed, or supported that different blood types respond differently to specific earmarked diets (Leila Cusack, Emmy De Buck, Veerie Compernolle, Philippe Vandekerckhove).

D’Adamo relied entirely on the findings of his father and himself (both naturopaths) in his whole blood type specified diet/exercise/lifestyle protocol. Neither of them conducted anything resembling a scientific study and/or a working paper submitted to any accredited peer-reviewing body. As a result, this whole blood type edifice has no scientific bearing whatsoever. It may be a complete work of fiction. It is at least highly questionable since none of this work is confirmed by any rigorous science as mentioned above.

Extensive positive testimonials regarding those diets may reflect that the nutritional recommendations are most often not unhealthy in themselves. And, such recommendations may represent an improvement over the former potentially unhealthy diets individuals ate. However, those individual experiences do not represent a valid scientific controlled experiment. And, therefore they do not convey any objective knowledge on whether different blood types should eat very specific differentiated diets.

Any negative comments about this book are by people who didn't even try the recommendations.
Although I am sure you will find some of your favorite foods on the "avoid" list you will be happy to find that a lot of the foods you do enjoy are beneficial. It's a change of life style and over the years (11 to be exact) I have gone back and forth following and cheating. I can honestly say that I lose weight (without exercise) and feel better when I follow the Blood Type Diet.
Disregard negative comments by people who didn't even try this.....give it a shot and then comment, be fair.

Good subject matter. However world population cannot be divided simply using blood group. More research is needed in the field.

I am not convinced that the research behind this book is thorough. I even think that some of the advice is bad. Besides, who in Canada knows their blood type.

Interesting...but if I followed the eating instructions in this book, I wouldn't be allowed to eat popcorn - my favorite snack...I stopped reading right after that.
