A compelling story about society in prehistoric times. Seems similar to Jean Auel's Earth Children series, involving a young woman and her horse Whinny. (Clan of the Cave Bear, Valley of the Horses, etc.). Both women had lovers who were attacked by a lion and they wound up marrying him. The two women traveled to faraway lands to escape prosecution from their tribes for violating customs and laws. If you like anthropology this book is for you. Was a great summer read.

Judith Tarr is a very bitter, angry woman, and from the first words she writes she's writing about her own bitterness. After a couple of chapters when I realized this was going nowhere except to provide the author with a screaming forum about how she's angry with all men and the women who support them, I had to stop. As a prehistorical novel it clearly has no value whatsoever. There is no acknowledgement of any research, which given the author's predilections, is no surprise. Skip it. It isn't worth your time. I don't understand why it was even printed.
