Great read!!!

Jun 11, 2016

I've been re-reading Janette Oke's books this summer. I loved them as a girl and for the most part have been happy to find they still are an entertaining and light read. This one was a big exception. I was shocked to find this story is basically Stockholm Syndrome elevated into romance! I see that the author was trying to set up some sort of star-crossed lovers idea and tried hard to make the male lead, Laramie, NOT a kidnapper, abusive, etc., but it didn't work. Instead, it felt like much of the novel centered around elevating a naive young woman's mistreatment and how she then fell for her captor. I hope I never read this one as a young person!
