Loved the economic chicanery subplot by Mallorean army procurement of buying lowly beans at set price & pocketing the profit scam or Silk turning the tables by controlling the entire crop & selling to greedy consortium.
Ditto Belgarath explained to belated alchemy university professor the economic implication of his co-worker's accidentally discovering fiberglass or not recovering the notes.
Author entertainingly broke tropes.
Seeress arm-twisting Emperor aka "the Empty one" into joining the group or artfully explaining history repeating for a reason.
Belgarath argued with his patron god on protecting Mallorean army from demon war sideshow.
Emperor could not throw Silk in jail in theory because Silk increased tax revenues in formerly stagnant economy.
Nice ending against the Demon Lords' meddling.
