I thoroughly enjoyed reading this completion of Austen's unfinished work and find the story very in line with how Austen might have set it up. The characters are rich and their actions fit very well with how they'd been personified. It did not-unlike Julia Barrett's completed version called "Charlotte"-feel like I'd been swept away from Austen into fanfiction (to equate it with film versions, "Another Lady" Marie Dobbs took on Austen the way Andrew Davies did for the BBC while Barrett's struck me the same way "Lost in Austen" had-you know, the one where the awkward red haired American 20-something stumbles into an Austen book all Narnia-meets-Wonderland-like&handles it like an awkward American? That.) While the library makes reading both easy and free, Dobbs managed to create a book I instantly went back re-reading passages from to savor the predictable-yet-delightful story development again. It isn't about to surprise anyone who's read Austen's works, but that's not why we read Austen. I'll let Ira Levin and David Mitchell throw me into suspense. This is my lazy gentle rainy day reading and Dobbs did a very good job honouring Miss Austen.
